IP Reputation Tanking? Use the IP Reputation Checker to Get Your Reputation Back on Track

Written on January 25, 2025   By   in Tech

Your organization’s stellar IP reputation is suddenly tanking – emails are going to spam folders, web traffic is slowing down, and blacklisting alerts are popping up in your monitoring systems. How did this happen, and what can you do about it?

Managing your IP reputation is crucial for email deliverability and online security. A bad reputation can send your emails to the spam folder, block purchases on your website through fraud prevention, or prevent logins for services like Netflix and Hulu. The good news is that it’s possible to get your IP reputation back up to par by following best practices, and by using a few simple tools.

IP Reputation Checker: Assess the Risk and Trustworthiness of an IP

IP Reputation Checkers are maintained by email filters for services like Gmail, Yahoo, and Outlook, as well as by cybersecurity and antivirus vendors. Detection of high complaint rates, spammy language, and other signs of malicious activity cause IP addresses to be added to blacklists. DNS amplification attacks – a tool used by attackers to bombard vulnerable servers with traffic – can also degrade an IP’s reputation, as can being part of a botnet used to send spam.

Once you know which blacklist your IP is in, work with IT/InfoSec to determine what caused your listing. Then, take corrective action – fixing website vulnerabilities, updating email practices, etc. – and request delisting from each of the blacklists. Remember that delisting may take some time, and once your IP is removed, be sure to monitor it regularly to ensure that it stays clean.
